Quilted silk satin skirt. Ankle length skirt made in silk cotton with a soft brushed cotton lining. Hand stitched quilting and scalloped hem detail. Side button fastening and plaited ties.
Redolent of an 18th century petticoat, this skirt is made using a luxurious cotton (50%) silk (50%) mix cloth, cotton wadding and brushed cotton lining. It has been hand-quilted in self-colour thread to create a harlequin diamond design. It is a weighty garment that is (perhaps surprisingly) flattering. Side-fastening with hand-made and hand-painted buttons, hand worked loops and extended, hand plaited, silk ties.Â
The scalloped, hemline had been hand-worked by a small family workshop based in North Vietnam, from whom Sula also order drawn thread work. One worker will have spent at least two days hand quilting the skirt and intricately stitching this hem.
Historically garments were quilted to provide warmth. We also need cosy garments today!Â
Shown here with Stornaway sweater and O Neck Tee.
Wash on a gentle and cool wool cycle and line dry in the shade.
