The sula khadi cotton fire blouse is a very simple shape. When visiting the wonderful exhibition at the V&A making herself up about Frida Kahlo, we became interested in the square shapes and deceptively simple garments that were worn by Kahlo. They made the traditional garments only of rectangles and squares of cloth, and we built the sula ss20 collection while experimenting with this concept. An example of how we used this idea is in our fire blouse. We added hand worked pin tuck details on the shoulders.
Here is a link to an article about the huipil blouse that women in mexico and much of central america still wear today. Frida Kahlo’s personal integrity and style has become an inspiration to women all over the world.
This simple cotton blouse comfortable cool and pretty. We made it cropped to the waist to go perfectly with our clay pants, freedom pants or Azul skirts. If you are not comfortable wearing cropped blouses perhaps this is not for you. We will be adding some silk camisoles to the sula site very soon which could be layered under this.
We have the blouses in Bright white or Lilac hint.
The model is 175cms (5’9″) and is wearing size S.
