the garments have a lived in, already loved feeling to them.

Sula started when Alison Taylor started working in a shared art studio and selling from a stall on Brighton beach where the jewel-toned silks billowed in the wind. Almost 25 years later, Sula operates from its own studio on the south coast of England, shows the collections in in Paris and New York, Melbourne and Sydney and sells to some of the most exclusive fashion stores all over the world, whilst retaining a loyal local clientele. Alison learned to sew as a child. As a student of fine art she made clothes for herself and her friends and the business developed from there. Exclusive textiles magazine Selvedge has commented on the exquisite colouration of Sula collections and has featured her use of drawn thread and cut-work undertaken by family run workshops in Vietnam.

Sula is a slow fashion, fair trade, company. Alison personally visits and ensures all the artisanal workshops in Vietnam and textiles mills around the world she commissions operate with ethical and inclusive working practices. Sula garments are made from the finest, often hand-woven, fabrics; peace silk and khadi are mainstays and hand-finished detailing is a Sula signature. Emphasis is placed upon creating an aged aesthetic, combined with comfort and wearability. It is hoped that wearers will enjoy and cherish their Sula garments for many years.
