at sula we are all big fans of flowers. we are often taking photos of those we find while out walking and using them as inspiration when it comes time to pick our next seasons palette. in early march we share seeds we have, and get so much joy from the progress of our cosmos, asters, nasturtiums, echinacea and geraniums growing in our gardens or on the front steps.

florals are a motif we return to time and time again, there is endless ways to interpret flowers into prints. there is so much variety in vintage cloth to reference and take inspiration from as we’ll as a long history of floral printed fabric. we often develop our floral prints after sourcing a vintage textile at a market or boot fair, we then experiment at our studio with changing colours, editing and rearranging elements. we work closely with a textile mill in japan where they bring our vision to life.

true to her name, production manager at sula, hannah flowerday finds much inspiration and joy from flowers. the perfect combination of her love for the natural world and her love for colours. at the moment hannah’s favourite flower is a candy floss poppy, pale blue toned pink in colour with an abundance of ruffley small petals.

hannahs favourite piece from aw25 has without a doubt been the small flower cashmere scarf which she absolutely adores, wearing to the studio daily now that the weather has dipped slightly.

you might recall a blog post we wrote many moons ago about repairing damaged bias cut skirts with little embroidered flowers, these simple flower shapes are a go to for us – whether we’re doodling or embroidering over damage.

we have a few flower motifs appearing in our aw25 collection, the flowers in the knitwear are a really simplified shape, almost abstracted 5 petal wonky flowers, this is the sort of flower Hannah is often doodling. the flowers appearing on our cashmere scarfs is similar, with little French knots in the centre as the seeds.

we have also created a floral print for aw25, it is derived from a beautiful vintage wallpaper sourced in delhi. featuring various types of flowers with personality and lively movement. we have two colour ways, one we call ‘peach print’ with autumnal reds, cool pinks and peachy yellow and orange. we also offer a “blue print” which has a pale blue base adorned with yellow and pink flowers. we have printed silk cotton satin which appears bold and bright as well as a softer faded silk cotton voile.
