
Each sula collection starts with a colour story. Inspiration can come from anywhere, flower petals, paintings, concrete, spices or soil. In June 2020 I was lucky to see the Jennifer Packer exhibition at the Serpentine gallery and the colours she uses in her paintings inspired subsequent spring and summer sula collections. Alison was inspired in Vietnam after a friend introduced her to a pile of black fruits. following this inspiration we want this collection to have options of flooded of black.

behind the scenes creating aw24. we wanted to find new ways to create warm winter clothing which still feels elegant and exciting, discovering many new fabrics and creating new designs.
shepherd dresses and tunics
inspired by an ancient shepherd smock shirt we discovered at a car boot sale. hannah did many smocking tests on the various fabrics, testing different coloured embroidery threads.

Upon our arrival at D+A morning light poured in from the windows We all had an excited buzz motivating us through our jet lag as it was a busy show.
our collection for summer 24
Overalls have all been carefully cut to flatter the female form. We also present our first bridal dress as well as a new print, inspired by the faded pressed flowers found betwixt antique books.
indigo dyeing
Indigo dyeing is an ancient practice first discovered in India around 5000 years ago. we have decided to use synthetic indigo dye for our Japanese denim.
flower embroidery mending
A seemingly random hand embroidered daisy adorns one cuff - it made us smile and covered a dye spot. The daisy is accorded qualities of loyal love, purity and beauty.
making Thames skirt
Thames quilted skirt is redolent of an 18th century petticoat, one worker will have spent at least two days hand quilting the skirt and intricately stitching this hem.
